Sat night June 11-
We spent the night in York Nebraska . We woke up to a chilly 67 degrees. Windy in the state of Nebraska . We ate lunch in Broken Bow, Nebraska .
Sunday – June 12-
Traveling across the state of Nebraska , you can go for miles and not see anyone. The land is flat at times an then there will be rolling hills. There are lots of wind mills. We got off the interstate and traveled highway 2 so we could see the countryside. The eastern part of Nebraska is huge acres of corn fields and after we passed the central part it became the sand hills. The corn went away and it became all beef country. We saw hundreds of trains, very few houses and a few rodeo arenas.
We arrived in Alliance , Nebraska and Boyd discovered that we had a tire getting ready to blow. We were so thankful we made it across the
plains without trouble. That could have been a disaster. We found a “Mr. Tire” but it was closed. We could not make it to a campground. Time for Marsha to pray. Beside the Mr. Tire was a convenience store and a rough, leather skinned, but kind hearted Harley rider named Jim Butcher came to our rescue. He was a tree trimmer by trade but offered to let us stay in his garage parking lot where he worked on vehicles on the side. We hooked up to his electricity and had a good night’s sleep. Mr. Tire guys installed the new tire while we took Jim to breakfast.
I'm reading backwards and am so jealous of this trip! ha! :) BUT...I wanted to comment on this one b/c my family did a cross country trip the year I turned 20 - worked it so we could go to DisneyLand for my 20th birthday. FABULOUS! Anyway - we were in Arizona driving through the desert and the (diesel) truck wouldn't downshift so we were going 70mph and couldn't really stop b/c the engine would blow...we found a rest stop on an incline and managed to drift to a stop in neutral. But we were in the middle of nowhere on a Friday afternoon at 4:30. Some guy in this tiny little car pulled in right after us (the only other person around) and he saw dad looking under the hood so he came over and said "I'm a diesel mechanic, let me have a look" - it was one screw that had come loose so he took an (unnecessary) screw from somewhere else and fixed it. I love God's reminders of his love/protection/provision...especially when they are angels on roadtrips! :)
