We spent Friday night, July 15th in Stewart, British Columbia. Steward BC gets more snow than any other area in BC. They have had a record 27 feet in a winter. While camping at Stewart we drove three miles over the border to Hyder, Alaska. Our purpose to go to Fish Creek in Hyder, Alaska was to see bear teaching their young to catch salmon. Seems like we are always a day late and a dollar short. We were too early for the salmon.. The Rangers at the Creek said every year is different for the timing of the salmon to show up. Both grizzly and black bears can be easily observed and photographed as they fish for chum and salmon. They have a nice boardway to view the wildlife if they are there. Hyder was our last hoorah in Alaska!!!

On our way to Hyder we drove over Eastman Creek which is named for George Eastman (of Eastman Kodak fame), who hunted big game in this area before the highway was built. We left Steward BC Sat. July 16th and are making our way south to Prince George, BC. We saw a pretty big black bear today and I got a few shots of him. Thank you God…since we were too early at Hyder!!! On our way to the little town of Smithers where we are camped tonight we stopped at the town of Hazeltown. They have a new part of town and a reconstructed part called Old Hazeltown that looks much like it did in the 1890’s. There were 19 historic sites in the town. What a quaint little community with beautiful flowers and gardens. I have included some pictures. I have included pictures of glaciers..they are everywhere....totem poles in a little Indian community and the church and bell tower which had the original bell from the 1800's. We are headed to Vancouver, Canada in the next few days.

More later!!!!
